Credit Card Fraud in the City of Champaign 5/18/2026

On March 20, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., a male suspect entered Best Buy located at 2117 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. The suspect applied for various forms of credit accounts using the victim’s stolen identity. He then used the various credit accounts and purchased numerous cell phones and other electronic devices. The victim later received the credit card bill which totaled several thousand dollars.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a heavy-set black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans. The suspect left on foot

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
On April 11, at 3:57 p.m., a retail theft occurred at Old Navy, located at 2000 N. Neil St. in Champaign. A female entered the store with an empty bag. She accessed a theft detection device and used it to remove multiple anti-theft devices from clothing prior to concealing the items in the bag. The female left without attempting to pay for the items. Five minutes later, the female reentered the store with an empty bag and again accessed the theft detection device. She selected more clothing and repeated the process before walking out without stopping to make payment. The stolen merchandise was valued at just under $600.
The suspect was described as a black female wearing a light blue jacket with white lettering, black leggings, and black shoes.


Retail Theft in the City of Champaign 4/20/2026
April 20, 2026
On April 4, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., two females entered Old Navy located at 2000 North Neil Street in Champaign. The females walked throughout the store together while suspect one selected a bag and concealed numerous items. When leaving the store, suspect one grabbed two sweatshirts and wrapped them around the concealed clothing. As the females passed through the anti-theft machines the clothing tags triggered the alarms both audibly and visually and the suspects continued walking making no attempt to stop and make payment. The females left with over $500 in stolen merchandise.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as black females, approximately 25-30 years old. Suspect one was described as having a medium build and wearing a pink sweatsuit. Suspect two was wearing all black clothing. The suspects fled in a red 4-door sedan

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
On December 3, 2025, at 3:44 p.m., two females entered TJ Maxx located at 21 E Marketview Dr. in Champaign. The females first grabbed bags and then selected numerous two-piece clothing sets, removed the alarm devices from the clothing, and concealed the items in the bags. They proceeded to the exit and made no attempt to stop and make payment. Employees were able to retrieve $800 worth of clothing the suspects dropped on the way out and the suspects fled with an additional $1,000 in stolen merchandise.
The suspects were described as black females, 20-30 years old. Suspect one was described as having black hair in a ponytail and was last seen wearing a black jacket, gray hoodie, gray sweatpants, and gray shoes. Suspect two was described as having black and brown hair and wearing a rose gold jacket, pink pants, and pink/white shoes.


Robbery in Urbana - Posted 3/23/2026

On March 16, 2026, at approximately 9:25 PM, officers responded to a reported robbery at Lindy Lu’s, 202West University Avenue in Urbana. Upon arrival, officers learned that two suspects, believed to be one maleand one female, entered the gaming establishment together. The suspects approached a customer, struck him in the back of the neck, and stole an undisclosed amount of cash along with a cell phone. The suspects then fled on foot, traveling north on Race Street and east on Park Street. No weapons were observed during the incident, and responding officers were unable to locate the suspects.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The male suspect is described as approximately 5’11”, heavy-set, wearing a black hoodie with a white cross on the zipper, gray pants, black and tan Nike shoes, a dark colored winter jacket and a face mask. The female suspect is described as approximately 5’9”, heavy-set, wearing a black hoodie with sparkles or gem-like lettering on the front, dark pants, white tennis shoes, and a black and blue winter coat.

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
On March 8, 2026, at approximately 9:35 p.m., an unknown male entered Meijer located at 2401 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. The male proceeded to the clothing and liquor departments and concealed multiple items before exiting the store without making payment. Loss prevention staff confronted the male at the exit and the male fled with over $400 in stolen merchandise.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a White or Hispanic male wearing a blue jacket with fur around the hood and black pants. He was carrying a large black backpack.

On March 3, 2026, at approximately 17:52 p.m., two females entered TJ Maxx located at 21 East Marketview Drive in Champaign. The females selected and concealed multiple sets of Nike and Jordan brand kids clothing. The females fled with the stolen merchandise valued at nearly $550.00.

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary investigation.
On February 3, 2026, at 4 a.m., police officers were called to the McDonald's restaurant located at 1006 S. Purnell Dr. in Mahomet. Employees arriving to open the store discovered
that someone had broken into the restaurant overnight and attempted to use a power tool to cut into the store safe. Further investigation uncovered surveillance video from the area showing a single suspect walking to and from the store between 3-3:30 am.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The unknown suspect was last seen wearing a light-colored ballcap, mask, black jacket, jeans, sneakers, and carrying a black duffle bag.




Homicide in Champaign - Posted 2/23/26

On February 9, 2026, at approximately 6:43 p.m., a shooting occurred in the 800 block of South Mattis Avenue in Champaign, which resulted in the death of a 17-year-old male. Responding officers arrived on scene to find the victim injured inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment complex with multiple potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police and Fire Department personnel immediately rendered lifesaving medical care until he could be transported to an area hospital, where a short time later he succumbed to his injuries. An additional 19-year-old male gunshot victim arrived at the hospital by personal transport. He was hospitalized, treated, and released.

On January 29, 2026, at approximately 12:25 PM, a retail theft occurred at Blain’s Farm & Fleet, located in the 2700 block of North Cunningham Avenue in Urbana. The suspect entered the store and proceeded to the tool department, where he removed a UPC label from a multi-tool. He then walked down the aisle and removed a security device (spider wrap) from a boxed tool on the shelf. The suspect applied the UPC label from the multitool to the boxed tool and placed the item into his shopping cart with the spider wrap still hanging from the box.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding two retail thefts.
On September 14, 2025, at 10:21 a.m., two male subjects entered Target located at 2102 N Prospect Ave. in Champaign. The males selected a full cart of merchandise including numerous clothing items, Shark vacuums, and a Ninja slushie machine. The males then exited without payment. The estimated loss just under $1,200.
On November 22, 2025, at 9:32 p.m., a second retail theft occurred at the same store. Two males selected electronic items including numerous Xbox consoles and digital cameras. The males concealed the items in bookbags and suitcases and exited without making payment. The total loss for the stolen merchandise was valued at more than $5,300.
All four suspects were described as black males. The suspects from the September 14th theft appeared to be 25-40 years old. The suspects from the November 22nd theft appeared to be approximately 18-25 years old.
