Credit Card Fraud in the City of Champaign 5/18/2026

On March 20, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., a male suspect entered Best Buy located at 2117 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. The suspect applied for various forms of credit accounts using the victim’s stolen identity. He then used the various credit accounts and purchased numerous cell phones and other electronic devices. The victim later received the credit card bill which totaled several thousand dollars.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a heavy-set black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans. The suspect left on foot

Shooting Investigation - 5/3/26
May 04, 2026

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting investigation.
 
On December 24, 2025, at approximately 10:44 PM, officers responded to a reported shooting with injuries at the Circle K, 507 West University Avenue in Urbana. Upon arrival, officers learned a light skinned black male suspect entered the business armed with a black and silver small caliber handgun and demanded the employee open the cash register. During the incident, the suspect battered and shot the employee several times. The suspect stole personal items from the employee before he fled in a white pickup truck he had previously stolen from the 1900 block of North Cunningham Avenue in Urbana. The truck was later recovered by officers, but the suspect was not located. The Circle K employee received medical treatment for their injuries and was later released from the hospital.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 6’00 tall, wearing all black attire - a black puffer style jacket, facemask, sunglasses with a reflective rim, a black shirt with a white graphic, Nike pants and shoes, black True Religion underwear, and black/gray mechanics gloves.

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 4/27/26
April 27, 2026

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.

On April 11, at 3:57 p.m., a retail theft occurred at Old Navy, located at 2000 N. Neil St. in Champaign. A female entered the store with an empty bag. She accessed a theft detection device and used it to remove multiple anti-theft devices from clothing prior to concealing the items in the bag. The female left without attempting to pay for the items. Five minutes later, the female reentered the store with an empty bag and again accessed the theft detection device. She selected more clothing and repeated the process before walking out without stopping to make payment. The stolen merchandise was valued at just under $600.

The suspect was described as a black female wearing a light blue jacket with white lettering, black leggings, and black shoes.

Retail Theft in the City of Champaign 4/20/2026
April 20, 2026

On April 4, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., two females entered Old Navy located at 2000 North Neil Street in Champaign. The females walked throughout the store together while suspect one selected a bag and concealed numerous items. When leaving the store, suspect one grabbed two sweatshirts and wrapped them around the concealed clothing. As the females passed through the anti-theft machines the clothing tags triggered the alarms both audibly and visually and the suspects continued walking making no attempt to stop and make payment. The females left with over $500 in stolen merchandise.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as black females, approximately 25-30 years old. Suspect one was described as having a medium build and wearing a pink sweatsuit. Suspect two was wearing all black clothing. The suspects fled in a red 4-door sedan

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 4/13/26
April 13, 2026

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft. On July 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., an unknown male entered Walmart located at 2610 N Prospect Ave. in Champaign. The male quickly selected a full cart of merchandise and proceeded to the self-checkout area where he scanned and bagged all the items and pretended to make payment. Loss prevention staff confronted the male at the exit and he immediately let go of the cart and fled to a vehicle waiting in the parking lot. Staff recovered almost $900 in merchandise from the attempted theft. Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 35-40 years old, with a beard and several arm tattoos. He was last seen wearing a blue and white Kimes Ranch ballcap, a black and green shirt, and black pants. The suspect fled in a red 4-door Chevrolet sedan with an unknown male driver.

Armed Subject Investigation - Posted 4/6/26

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed subject investigation.
 
On March 29, 2026, at approximately 2:43 AM, officers responded to a reported criminal damage in the 800 block of South First Street in Champaign. Upon arrival, officers learned that six male suspects were denied entry to a party. The six male suspects left and returned shortly after all wearing face masks and one male suspect brandished a black firearm and pointed it at the residents. The male suspects left the area again and returned a few minutes later in a vehicle and one of the male suspects threw a brick through a window of the residence.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects. The six male suspects were generally described as six black males approximately 16-19 years old and all were wearing black clothing. No other description was given of the suspects or the vehicle they were driving.

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 3/30/26
March 30, 2026

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.

On December 3, 2025, at 3:44 p.m., two females entered TJ Maxx located at 21 E Marketview Dr. in Champaign. The females first grabbed bags and then selected numerous two-piece clothing sets, removed the alarm devices from the clothing, and concealed the items in the bags. They proceeded to the exit and made no attempt to stop and make payment. Employees were able to retrieve $800 worth of clothing the suspects dropped on the way out and the suspects fled with an additional $1,000 in stolen merchandise.

The suspects were described as black females, 20-30 years old. Suspect one was described as having black hair in a ponytail and was last seen wearing a black jacket, gray hoodie, gray sweatpants, and gray shoes. Suspect two was described as having black and brown hair and wearing a rose gold jacket, pink pants, and pink/white shoes.

Robbery in Urbana - Posted 3/23/2026
March 23, 2026

On March 16, 2026, at approximately 9:25 PM, officers responded to a reported robbery at Lindy Lu’s, 202West University Avenue in Urbana. Upon arrival, officers learned that two suspects, believed to be one maleand one female, entered the gaming establishment together. The suspects approached a customer, struck him in the back of the neck, and stole an undisclosed amount of cash along with a cell phone. The suspects then fled on foot, traveling north on Race Street and east on Park Street. No weapons were observed during the incident, and responding officers were unable to locate the suspects.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The male suspect is described as approximately 5’11”, heavy-set, wearing a black hoodie with a white cross on the zipper, gray pants, black and tan Nike shoes, a dark colored winter jacket and a face mask. The female suspect is described as approximately 5’9”, heavy-set, wearing a black hoodie with sparkles or gem-like lettering on the front, dark  pants, white tennis shoes, and a black and blue winter coat.

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 3/16/2026

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.

On March 8, 2026, at approximately 9:35 p.m., an unknown male entered Meijer located at 2401 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. The male proceeded to the clothing and liquor departments and concealed multiple items before exiting the store without making payment. Loss prevention staff confronted the male at the exit and the male fled with over $400 in stolen merchandise.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a White or Hispanic male wearing a blue jacket with fur around the hood and black pants. He was carrying a large black backpack.

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 3/9/26

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.

On March 3, 2026, at approximately 17:52 p.m., two females entered TJ Maxx located at 21 East Marketview Drive in Champaign. The females selected and concealed multiple sets of Nike and Jordan brand kids clothing. The females fled with the stolen merchandise valued at nearly $550.00.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as one White and one Black female. The white female had long brown hair and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, and the black female was wearing a black puffy coat. The suspects fled the area in a newer black Escalade.

Burglary in Mahomet - Posted 3/2/26
March 02, 2026

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary investigation.

On February 3, 2026, at 4 a.m., police officers were called to the McDonald's restaurant located at 1006 S. Purnell Dr. in Mahomet. Employees arriving to open the store discovered

that someone had broken into the restaurant overnight and attempted to use a power tool to cut into the store safe. Further investigation uncovered surveillance video from the area showing a single suspect walking to and from the store between 3-3:30 am.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The unknown suspect was last seen wearing a light-colored ballcap, mask, black jacket, jeans, sneakers, and carrying a black duffle bag.

Homicide in Champaign - Posted 2/23/26
February 23, 2026

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a homicide investigation.

On February 9, 2026, at approximately 6:43 p.m., a shooting occurred in the 800 block of South Mattis Avenue in Champaign, which resulted in the death of a 17-year-old male. Responding officers arrived on scene to find the victim injured inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment complex with multiple potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police and Fire Department personnel immediately rendered lifesaving medical care until he could be transported to an area hospital, where a short time later he succumbed to his injuries. An additional 19-year-old male gunshot victim arrived at the hospital by personal transport. He was hospitalized, treated, and released.
 
Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.

Residential Burglary- Posted 2/16/26
February 16, 2026

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a residential burglary.
 
On January 27, 2026, at approximately 2:40 p.m., three unknown subjects forced entry into a residence in the 200-block of Beardsley Avenue in Champaign. The subjects damaged the door, property inside, and stole numerous quantities of jewelry, cologne, clothing and shoes, totaling over $18,800.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the three suspects. The suspects were described as younger black males with one wearing a mask and all black clothing. No further description was available for the other two subjects.

Retail Theft - Posted 2/9/26
February 09, 2026

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.

On January 29, 2026, at approximately 12:25 PM, a retail theft occurred at Blain’s Farm & Fleet, located in the 2700 block of North Cunningham Avenue in Urbana. The suspect entered the store and proceeded to the tool department, where he removed a UPC label from a multi-tool. He then walked down the aisle and removed a security device (spider wrap) from a boxed tool on the shelf. The suspect applied the UPC label from the multitool to the boxed tool and placed the item into his shopping cart with the spider wrap still hanging from the box.
 
The suspect remained in the store for several minutes before proceeding to self-checkout, where he scanned the incorrect UPC label and paid $129.71 for a tool with an actual retail value of $999.99. He then exited the store, entered a vehicle, and left the property.
 
The suspect was described as a white male in his mid to upper 30s, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing around 250 pounds, with a full beard. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a camouflage coat, blue jeans, brown boots, and a gray and yellow hat. The vehicle involved was described as a black sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu.

Retail Theft- Posted 1/20/26

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
 
On December 21, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., an unknown female entered Walmart at 2610 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. The female selected numerous expensive steaks and other meat products, clothing, and household items. She then quickly exited the store with a cart full of unpaid merchandise. The suspect ran to a vehicle waiting in the parking lot and two males jumped out and helped her load the items into the vehicle before fleeing. The stolen merchandise was valued at over $600.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the female suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a medium build, white female with a linear birthmark or scar down her face. She was last seen wearing a brown hat, brown Carhartt coat, black leggings, and brown boots. The suspects fled in a dark gray or black Jeep.

Multiple Motor Vehicle Burglaries - Posted 1/12/26

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a subject committing multiple burglaries to motor vehicles.
 
On October 21st, 2025, at approximately 5:21 a.m., a subject entered an underground parking garage located at 202 East Green Street in Champaign. Surveillance video was obtained of the burglaries and showed the offender arrives on an electric scooter and breaks into several vehicles before leaving.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect is described as skinny, approximately 5’10” tall. The suspect was wearing a long black coat with a fur lined hood, gray stocking cap, black face mask, gray sweatpants, gray gloves, plain white shoes and a black Nike backpack with a large Nike Swoosh on it.

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 1/5/26

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding two retail thefts.

On September 14, 2025, at 10:21 a.m., two male subjects entered Target located at 2102 N Prospect Ave. in Champaign. The males selected a full cart of merchandise including numerous clothing items, Shark vacuums, and a Ninja slushie machine. The males then exited without payment. The estimated loss just under $1,200.

On November 22, 2025, at 9:32 p.m., a second retail theft occurred at the same store. Two males selected electronic items including numerous Xbox consoles and digital cameras. The males concealed the items in bookbags and suitcases and exited without making payment. The total loss for the stolen merchandise was valued at more than $5,300.

All four suspects were described as black males. The suspects from the September 14th theft appeared to be 25-40 years old. The suspects from the November 22nd theft appeared to be approximately 18-25 years old.

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 12/29/25

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft. On November 4, 2025, at approximately 12:27 p.m., three females entered Dick’s House of Sport at Market Place Mall in Champaign. The females went directly to the men’s Nike department and each selected numerous tech outfits. They then exited the store without stopping to make payment. The stolen merchandise was valued at over $3,000. Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as three black females, 18-30 years old. One woman was wearing all black clothing and had auburn hair, another was wearing a white headwrap, light-colored shirt and dark pants, and the last was wearing a light printed headwrap and all-black clothing. The women fled in a brown Jeep.

Forced Entry to Farm Buildings- Posted 12/22/25

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding two burglaries with forced entry to farm buildings.
 
On December 11th, 2025, Champaign County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies took a report of a burglary that occurred overnight to Ehler Brothers Fertilizer located at 2475 CR 2100N in the St. Joseph Township. Signs of forced entry to a farm building were observed and numerous Milwaukee power tools were reported stolen.
 
On November 27th, 2025, CCSO deputies also took a similar report of a burglary to 2644 CR 1800E in the Rantoul Township. Signs of forced entry to a farm building were observed and numerous Milwaukee tools and other tools/equipment were reported stolen.
 

Burglaries and Criminal Damage - Posted 12/15/25
December 15, 2025

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding burglaries and criminal damage.
 
Between June 29 and July 8, 2025, on two occasions an unknown subject forced entry to the Champaign Church of Christ, 1509 West John Street and stole items from inside. On July 11, 2025, an unknown subject was seen entering the building through a window. On December 4, 2025, two subjects were seen on surveillance video around the same windows where entry was previously made. Several security cameras were damaged before the suspects fled the area.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as unknown race males with thin builds. The subjects were wearing face coverings, hoodies, and sweatpants or dark pants.
