Burglary to Motor Vehicle in the City of Champaign -Posted 7/14/25
July 14, 2025

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary to motor vehicle, aggravated discharge of firearm, and criminal damage.

On June 20, 2025, at approximately 2:45 a.m., a male subject was caught breaking into a vehicle by the vehicle owner in the 500 block of Westlawn Avenue in Champaign. The victim/vehicle owner confronted the suspect and as the suspect fled, he turned and began shooting at the victim. There was property damage to two homes but no injuries.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect from this incident. The suspect was described as a taller, thin black male wearing all dark clothing.


Burglary to Motor Vehicles- Posted 7/7/24
July 07, 2025

On May 06, 2025, at approximately 5:00 AM, a male entered several parked vehicles in the 900 block of South Third Street in Champaign. Officers learned that several items were stolen from two of the vehicles. The value of the stolen items has not yet been determined.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a light-skinned black male wearing a black jacket over a gray hooded sweater. The sweater’s hood was pulled up over their head and they were wearing black pants and black shoes.

Smoke Shop Robbery in Champaign - Posted 6/30/25
June 30, 2025

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a robbery.

On June 3, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m., a robbery occurred at the Wild Side Smoke Shop at 604 South
Neil Street in Champaign. Upon arrival, officers learned the offender had asked to purchase a lighter before
reaching over the counter and grabbing cash from the register drawer and from the employee's hand before
fleeing the store.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect appeared to be a
black male, approximately 50-60 years old, with a gray beard and longer gray braids. He was last seen wearing
a black beanie cap, black shirt, blue jeans and white shoes.

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 6/23/25
June 23, 2025

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.

On June 1, 2025, at 2:52 p.m., a female subject entered Dick’s Sporting Goods’ Going Going Gone at 63 East Marketview Drive in Champaign. The woman selected numerous items and concealed them in her purse. She then proceeded to the exit with no attempt to stop and make payment. The stolen merchandise was valued at nearly $900.

The suspect appeared to be a white female, last seen wearing glasses, a white tank top under an orange long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and tan sandals.

Retail Thefts in Champaign - Posted 6/16/25
June 16, 2025

Between June 1 and June 10, 2025, police received several reports of retail thefts at Meijer, located at 2401 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. The suspects selected numerous items and concealed some in bags or coolers, some items were placed in carts, and all subjects exited without making payment. A few items were recovered by employees at the exit, and the stolen merchandise was valued at over $1,500.00. Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as follows.

June 1

Female: 18–25 years old, average build, black hair, white shirt, black adidas pants, beige purse Vehicle: black sedan

June 8

Male: 36–50 years old, average build, white hat, black shirt, blue shorts

Female: 18–25 years old, average build, braids, white shirt, peach skirt, black bag

Vehicle: black GMC SUV

June 9

Female: 26–35 years old, large build, wearing glasses, brown tank top, white shorts

Female: 26–35 years old, average build, green/white shirt, green/white shorts, black bag

Male: 18–25 years old, slender build, black shirt, black pants

Vehicle: black Chevy SUV

Female: over 50 years old, slender build, low cut brown hair, black shirt, camo pants, leopard print bag

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 6/9/25
June 09, 2025

On May 28, 2025, at approximately 9:12 p.m., three subjects entered Meijer at 2401 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. The subjects worked together to gather and load several totes full of merchandise onto a cart. One subject, wearing a black/yellow Meijer jacket, then pushed the cart outside and met up with the other subjects. Once confronted by loss prevention staff, the suspects fled with two of the totes. The total attempted theft was valued at over $3,200.00. Several items were recovered and the suspects fled with an estimated $800.00 in stolen merchandise.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as an unknown race male, a black male, black female, and all were approximately 5’3” to 5’9” tall. The suspects were further described as follows:
 
Suspect 1 – male, 26–35 years old, average build, black cap, mask, black/yellow Meijer jacket, khaki pants

Suspect 2 – male, 26–35 years old, slender build, gray/black beard with mustache, black hoodie, blue jeans

Suspect 3 – female, 36–50 years old, slender build, short gray hair, black sunglasses, black hoodie, gray sweatpants

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 6/2/25

Champaign County Crime Stoppers seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
 
On November 19, 2024, at approximately 9:08 a.m., a male subject entered Kohl’s at 109 Convenience Center Road in Champaign. The male selected numerous items and concealed them in a duffle bag. He then proceeded to the exit with no attempt to stop and make payment. The stolen merchandise was valued at nearly $500.00.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect appeared to be a black male, last seen wearing a navy blue adidas sweatsuit and white sneakers. The suspect fled the area in a gray sedan, possibly a Hyundai Elantra.

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 5/26/25
May 26, 2025

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.

On February 3, 2025, at 6:40 p.m., a female subject entered Sephora in Market Place Shopping Center in Champaign. The female went directly to the fragrance area and selected several gift sets and travel sprays and placed them in her basket. She then exited the store without attempting to make payment. The stolen merchandise was valued at more than $700.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect appeared to be a black female, last seen wearing a tan coat with fur around the hood, a black shirt and black leggings, and brown furry boots. The suspect entered carrying a basket and left with it filled with the stolen merchandise.

Package Theft in Champaign - Posted 5/19/25
May 19, 2025

The University of Illinois Police Department is investigating multiple package thefts from an apartment complex in the 100 block of East Healey Street in Champaign. On April 23, 2025, two suspects approached a secure residential building and waited for a resident to open the door. Once inside, the two suspects stole multiple packages. The value of all packages is not yet determined.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects are described asfollows:

Suspect 1: Male, black, approximately 45-55 years old, 5’6” – 5’8”, 170 lbs. The suspect was wearing a black Chicago Cubs hat, a black hooded sweatshirt over a plaid button-up shirt, black jeans, and black and white Nike shoes with red heels. The suspect had a short beard.

Suspect 2: Female, black, approximately 35-45 years old, 5’4”-5’6”, 220 lbs. The suspect was wearing a black hooded jacket, navy blue leggings, and black and white Nike shoes. She was wearing a silver

Credit Card Fraud- Posted 5/12/25
May 12, 2025

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a credit card fraud.
 
On February 26, 2025, a victim’s stolen credit cards were fraudulently used at Menards and Rural King in Champaign, and at Walmart in Savoy. Surveillance footage from the businesses showed a male suspect used the stolen credit cards to purchase numerous items, including riding lawn mowers. The total loss was valued at over $11,000.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect appeared to be a black male, last seen wearing a tan winter hat, sunglasses, a dark blue zip up hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers. The suspect was seen leaving the area in a white Dodge Ram van.

Homicide in Urbana - Posted 5/5/25
May 05, 2025

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a homicide investigation.
 
On April 11, 2021, at approximately 4:37 p.m., a shooting occurred in the 1100 block of Webber Street in Urbana, which resulted in the death of 46-year-old Issah Musah. Responding officers arrived on scene to find Musah lying in a yard with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers and paramedics immediately rendered lifesaving care until he could be transported to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
 
The initial investigation indicated the victim was believed to be in the yard of a residence on that block letting a dog out for a friend when he was approached by a single person and shot. Detectives have followed multiple leads over the past several years and are continuing to seek the public’s assistance with locating any additional information related to this case.

Burglary in Rantoul - Posted 4/28/25
April 28, 2025

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary.

On April 12, 2025, police officers responded to a storage facility located in the 100 block of E. Flessner Ave. in Rantoul for the report of a burglary. Surveillance video showed on the morning of April 11 at 1:10 a.m., two unknown offenders arrived in a white U-Haul van. The driver is observed cutting the lock from one of the storage units, and soon both individuals are seen removing various items from the storage unit and loading them into the van.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The first suspect appeared to be a white male, wearing a blue colored hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The second suspect appeared to be wearing light colored pants, white shoes, and a dark hooded sweatshirt.

Armed Robbery- Posted 4/14/25
April 14, 2025

On March 20, 2025, at approximately 1:15 a.m., police officers responded to Circle K located at 609 East University Avenue in Champaign for the initial report of an unknown problem. Upon arrival, officers learned a male armed with a knife entered the gas station and demanded cash from the register. The employee refused to open the cash drawer and a scuffle ensued, and the employee received a minor laceration in the struggle. The suspect fled shortly afterwards stealing merchandise on his way out.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male with a beard, approximately 35-40 years old, missing front teeth. He was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt with a flag on the front, and dark sweatpants.

Credit Card Fraud - Posted 4/7/25
April 07, 2025

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a credit card fraud.
 
On March 29, 2025, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a victim’s stolen credit cards were fraudulently used at Thorntons, located at 101 South Mattis Avenue in Champaign. Surveillance footage from the business showed a black female suspect used the stolen credit cards to purchase gasoline for a white Chevrolet SUV and a blue minivan that arrived with her.
 
The suspect entered the business and attempted to purchase additional items with the stolen credit cards but was denied. Both vehicles left the area shortly afterwards.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as an unknown heavy-set black female wearing a brown jacket with blue sleeves, a white shirt, black/white shorts, and gray “Croc” style shoes.

Aggravated Robbery in Urbana - Posted 3/31/25
March 31, 2025

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an aggravated robbery.

On March 25, 2025, at approximately 2:20 p.m., police officers responded to Exotic’s Smoke Shop in the 100 block of E. University Ave. in Urbana for a robbery report. Responding officers learned a male entered the store and began selecting items. The male presented the items for purchase but instead of exchanging money, he attempted to grab the bag. When the store’s personnel resisted, the suspect walked behind the counter, pushed the employee, grabbed the bag of merchandise and attempted to leave the business. Another employee attempted to intervene at which point the suspect removed an object from his waistband and pointed it at the victims. The suspect fled on foot with the stolen merchandise.

The suspect was described as a black male, 25-30 years old, wearing a black stocking cap, a black puffy coat, black pants, and black and yellow Jordan 13 retro “Carmelo Class of 2002” high top shoes.

Criminal Damage to Property in Urbana- Posted 3/24/25
March 24, 2025

On March 16, 2025, at approximately 6:45 p.m., three individuals entered a property owned by a private association in the 1700 block of East Perkins Road in Urbana. The suspects broke windows out of a truck parked on the property belonging to the association.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as three younger black males and were described as wearing the following.

Suspect 1 – blue hat, tan coat, black jeans, and black and white tennis shoes

Suspect 2 – black puffy coat, light colored jeans, and white tennis shoes

Suspect 3 – light blue hooded sweatshirt under a navy blue puffy coat, gray pants, and white tennis shoes

Homicide in Champaign - Posted 3/17/25
March 17, 2025

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a homicide.

On October 4, 2022, at approximately 5:47 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of North Third Street in Champaign for a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located 25-year-old Rashaud Weatherall with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers immediately rendered medical aid until he could be transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Two additional gunshot victims arrived at the hospital by personal transport. They were treated and released.
 
The initial investigation indicated the men were attending a birthday party in the area when an unknown subject(s) opened fire on the group. Investigators have followed multiple leads over the past several years and are continuing to seek the public’s assistance with locating any additional information related to the individual(s) involved in this incident.
 

Homicide in Urbana - Posted 3/10/25
March 10, 2025

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a homicide investigation.
 
On February 7, 2025, at approximately 8:01 p.m., a shooting occurred in the 2000-block of Vawter Street in Urbana, which resulted in the death of 18-year-old Sherman McCraney. Surveillance video appeared to capture two black male suspects in the area at the time of the shooting. The two males had briefly stopped and talked with a third male just prior to the shooting and before fleeing the area.
 
Investigators seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects and person of interest captured on video. The suspects were described as two black males, the first male of average height with a stocky build, and the second male tall with a thin build. The third unknown male was described as wearing a tan jacket and black pants.
 
Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.

Motor Vehicle Burglary in Champaign - Posted 3/3/24

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary to motor vehicle investigation. On February 11 at 3:49 p.m.,

a female entered several parked vehicles in the 400 block of E. John St. in Champaign. Officers learned several items inside one vehicle were moved around, and the glove box was opened. At this time, it’s unknown if anything was stolen from the vehicle(s) involved. Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect, who was described as a female wearing a teal jacket with a hood, blue jeans, white/tan shoes, and carrying a green bag.

Robbery in Urbana - Posted 2/24/25
February 24, 2025

On February 17, 2025, police officers responded to Urban Beauty and Fashion at 1502 North Cunningham Avenue in Urbana for a reported robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned five suspects entered the business,concealed items, and fled the store south toward Oakland Avenue. Approximately 10 minutes later, all five suspects returned to the business. Employees attempted to prevent the suspects from reentering and thsuspects pepper strayed one employee and battered another before leaving the business again with additional stolen merchandise.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as five black females, approximately 16 to 24 years old, and were described as wearing the following.

Suspect 1 – pink hat, blue jacket with white fur around hood, a pink hooded sweatshirt, gray pants, and white/black shoes

Suspect 2 – black jacket, white hooded sweatshirt, blue Sponge Bob Square Pants pajama pants, black boots, carrying a black purse

Suspect 3 – black jacket, blue hooded sweatshirt, blue flannel pants, two toned blue tennis shoes

Suspect 4 – black hooded sweatshirt, black pants with red writing and an unknown white figure

Suspect 5 – orange hooded sweatshirt, red flannel pants, orange Croc style shoes, carrying a blue bag
