Aggravated Battery and Mob Action in Champaign - Posted 06/26/23

On May 7, 2023, at 12:14 AM, seven unknown males were being disorderly in the Campustown area. One of the unknown males approached a male and female walking on Green St and began verbally antagonizing them. The female reported to law enforcement that the unknown male’s actions were uncomfortable, and she felt unsafe. The male defended the female by pushing the unknown male away from them. The 7 unknown males then repeatedly battered the male. The male suffered multiple injuries to the face, head, and ribs. One of the unknown males revealed a firearm holstered in his belt line and threatened the male. The 7 unknown males left the area, and the victim was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.
The seven unknown subjects were described as:
Offender 1 – A light skinned black male wearing a long sleeve grey hoodie. The sweater had black writing in the center. The male was wearing black pants with a ‘rip’ style on the right front knee area of the pants, as well as white and grey Nike shoes with a Black Nike ‘swoosh’ logo. The male had what appeared as a thick, short, afro style or ‘dreads’ haircut. The male had what appeared as a light blue surgical mask under his chin.
Offender 2 - A light skinned black male wearing a long sleeve black sweater. The sweater had a large yellow logo in the middle of a ‘smiley face’ melting. The image had an unknown word behind it starting with the letter ‘R’. The male wore black pants, light brown boots, and had a black satchel across his body. The male wore a black hat and had what appeared as the tips of a ‘dread’ style hair cut hanging from the bottom of the hat.
Offender 3 – A light skin complexion male (possibly Hispanic) wearing a dark hoodie with a white logo of the words “Jordan” and a large “23”. The male wore light blue pants with a ‘ripped’ style, as well as black shoes with a white base and red shoelaces. The male’s hood was over his head, and his hair was not visible.
Offender 4 – A dark skinned black male wearing a dark hoodie with the hood over his head. The male appeared to wear dark pants or dark sweatpants. The male was wearing black shoes with white bases.
Offender 5- A dark skinned black male with large shoulder length ‘dread’ style hair. The male wore a dark “Letterman” jacket that had a dark colored base and white sleeves. The jacket had what appeared as an orange “La” on the left side. The male had on a white shirt underneath it. The male wore dark colored pants and white shoes.
Offender 6 – A black male wearing a red hoodie, black and white pants, and grey shoes.




Shooting in the City of Champaign - Posted 06/20/2023

On June 11, 2023, at approximately 3:35 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of North Sixth Street for a report of a shooting with injuries and multiple traffic collisions. Upon arrival, officers found several victims with gunshot wounds and began to render medical aid until an ambulance could arrive. At the same time, additional victims arrived at an area hospital. In all, four individuals were struck by gunfire and two were struck by vehicles related to this incident. Details on the victims are as follows:
Victim #1: A 17-year-old male suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound to the head.
Victim #2: A 29-year-old male suffered a single gunshot wound to the leg.
Victim #3: A 27-year-old male from Urbana suffered a single gunshot wound to the arm.
Victim #4: A 23-year-old male from Urbana suffered a graze wound to the ear.
Victim #5: A 22-year-old female was injured in a motor vehicle collision.
Victim #6: A 23-year-old female was injured in a motor vehicle collision.
On scene, officers learned that a large crowd had formed for an impromptu gathering when an unknown subject opened fire. Immediately, a very chaotic scene erupted when multiple vehicles attempted to quickly leave the area, causing at least three collisions with injuries. Multiple parked vehicles were damaged and at least one residence struck by gunfire.

Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting and criminal damage.
On May 5, 2023, at 11:45 p.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the 2500 block of W. Springfield Ave. for a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 28-year-old female victim from Champaign with a non-life-threatening graze wound, who was treated on-scene. Officers also located a building and vehicle had been struck by gunfire.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest captured on video. The subject appeared to be a black male, approximately 30-40 years old, with short hair and a goatee. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, white pants, and red/white shoes.
Shooting and Aggravated Battery in Champaign - Posted 05/23/2023

On May 13, 2023, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to Mach 1, located at 902 Bloomington Road, for a report of disorderly subjects. As officers arrived on-scene, they witnessed a battery in-progress and quickly heard a gunshot from the same area. As the crowd quickly disbursed, officers located two women with injuries. The first victim, a 36-year-old Champaign woman, had sustained injuries in the melee, including battery to the head. The second victim, a 40-year-old Champaign woman who worked in the store, suffered bruises from the battery along with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the right shoulder. Both victims were treated on-scene before being transported to an area hospital by ambulance.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft and stolen vehicle. On April 23, 2023, police responded to the Carle Heart and Vascular Institute (701 W. Church St., Urbana) for a stolen vehicle report. Responding officers learned the suspect entered the facility around 9:25 a.m. and walked around inside for several minutes and ultimately located an employee’s backpack. The suspect took the backpack, removed credit/ debit cards, cash, and the victim’s car keys before discarding the backpack in another part of the building. The suspect left the facility and walked to the employee parking lot where he located the victim’s vehicle. The suspect fled in the victim’s 2015 blue Nissan Murano with Illinois plates, AC77517.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect is described as a black male, medium build, with a black and gray beard. He was last seen wearing a white floppy hat, red coat, dark pants, and black/white shoes.

On March 30, 2023, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a female suspect stole a wallet from a purse while the victim shopped at Home Goods, located at 718 Town Center Boulevard in Champaign. Within minutes the suspect used the victim’s credit cards to purchase large amounts of gift cards from Sam’s Club. The fraudulent transactions totaled over $18,000. Later the same day and the following day the victim’s credit cards were used in Terre Haute, Indiana..

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The three suspects appeared to be black males 20-30 years old. The first male was wearing a black stocking cap, camouflage type jacket, and jeans. The second suspect was wearing a ball cap, black shiny puffer coat, and colorful sweatpants. The third male was wearing a tan hooded sweatshirt with a white strip across the chest and arms, and distressed jeans.



Motor Vehicle Theft in Champaign - Posted 04/03/23

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding the theft of a motor vehicle..
On March 7, 2023, at 7:40 p.m., two unknown offenders stole a silver 2011 Toyota Corolla from the 600 block of S Sixth St. in Champaign, which was left unattended with the keys in the ignition. The vehicle plates displayed at the time of theft were Illinois DS45410, and the back windshield and rear passenger windows were tinted. Security cameras captured images of the two offenders walking around
Campustown before and during the incident. Police seek the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle and identifying the suspects captured on video. The first suspect appeared to be a darker skinned black male last seen wearing a black mask, black sweatshirt, jeans with red shorts underneath, and white shoes. The second suspect appeared to be a lighter skinned black male wearing a green or grey sweatshirt, jeans, black/white tennis shoes, and a black backpack.




Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 03-27-23

On March 1, 2023, at 5:00 p.m., three subjects entered Ulta Beauty located at 2023 N. Prospect Ave in Champaign. The trio selected over $3,000.00 worth of high-end fragrances and hair tools, and attempted to leave the store without paying. Some merchandise was recovered before the suspects fled in a black Chevy SUV.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects appeared to be black females approximately 20-30 years old. The same suspects were reported to have also stolen merchandise from an Ulta Beauty location in Bloomington, Illinois.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male, 6’4” tall, and approximately 170 lbs. He was last seen wearing all-black clothing and may have left in a dark-colored SUV. The suspect appeared to have a tattoo of flames on his right hand.

On July 23, 2021, at 4:57 p.m., police officers responded to the 3000 block of Edward Hoffman Dr. in Champaign for a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located 26-year-old Jayvohn Foster with a single life-threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

On December 6, 2022, at approximately 7:16 p.m., one female and two male subjects entered T-Mobile located at 61 East Marketview Drive in Champaign. The female approached the counter and asked to purchase five iPhones. Once the phones were retrieved from a locked cabinet, one male distracted an employee and grabbed the phones from the counter. The other male stood by holding the door open until they were all exiting the business. The suspects fled with the phones valued at $4,500.00.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subjects captured on video. The female appeared to be a black female, wearing a yellow cap, black coat, light-colored jeans, and orange shoes. The male suspects appeared to be black males. One male was wearing a black hat, gray sweatshirt, black pants and shoes. The second male was wearing a maroon sweatshirt, black pants, and black shoes.

On January 10, 2023, at 6:30 PM, an individual approached a residence in the 1500 block of S. Smith Rd. in Urbana. The male suspect removed a delivery package from the victim’s porch and fled the scene on foot.
Assault in Champaign - Posted 01/30/2023

On September 4, 2022, at approximately 1:15 a.m., an unknown male asked the victim to follow him to another area inside Kam’s bar, located at 102 East Green Street in Champaign. The male then became aggressive and repeatedly pushed the female victim against a wall when she tried to leave. The victim was able to get away and the suspect left the area on foot.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subject captured on video. The suspect was described as a white male with brown hair, 5’10” tall, and had a slight European accent. He was last seen wearing a black shirt with a lion design on the front and back, khaki pants, and white shoes.
